Osterville is one of the seven villages within Barnstable, Massachusetts. Osterville is primarily a residential community that includes marshes, bays, ponds, a small lake, beaches,and a small business district.
Once known as a center for a center for “oystering” (harvesting wild oysters) it was called Oysterville. Later a map misspelled the name as Osterville and there it remained.
During July and August, Osterville’s population swells due to the many seasonal residents. The village is known for its oceanfront estates.
